Terms and conditions for courses
General
These are the Terms and Conditions under which the Driver Awareness Scheme (DAS) operates, please ensure that you read these prior to accepting the offer of the Driver Awareness Scheme course.
By accepting the offer of a DAS course it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these terms and conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Drivers who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred back to the Fixed Penalty procedure.
- The offer of a DAS course is a decision made by the DAS office on behalf of Dorset Police. Any decisions made are final. Mitigation for the offence cannot and will not be considered.
- Participation is only available to those drivers who are notified by letter from the DAS office and have not taken part on another occasion within the last three years in Dorset and are not currently waiting to attend a DAS course in respect of any other offence.
- Full cleared payment is required prior to attending the course - if your cheque payment is declined by your bank for any reason, the course will be cancelled as a means of disposal which will result in the offence being referred to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria.
- Once payment has been made you have accepted the offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course and the payment is non-refundable or transferable.
- Failure to respond to any correspondence within the time scale provided will result in the offence being referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria and the offer of a DAS course withdrawn.
- Bookings cannot be transferred to any other date. Any dates to avoid should be notified on the DAS acceptance form. If you are unable to attend your course, your file will be referred to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria, unless through exceptional circumstances such as bereavement, pre-booked holiday or medical grounds. Documentary evidence justifying your non-attendance is required. Failure to justify your non-attendance will result in non-completion and the offer of the DAS course withdrawn. No refund of original fees will be made.
- Participants whose behaviour is deemed to be unacceptable will be warned of this. Should this behaviour continue to be unacceptable they will be asked to leave the course. No refund of course fees will be given and the offence will be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria.
- To gain access to the course, participants MUST bring their photo card Driving licence or an old style licence plus a form of photographic ID.
- Participants must arrive promptly and attend the entire course. Latecomers will not be admitted and their offence will be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria. No refund of course fees will be given in this situation.
- All pagers and mobile phones must be switched off throughout the course. To successfully complete the course, you must participate fully and show a positive attitude to road safety.
- No babies, children or animals are permitted on the course with the exception of assistance dogs with prior agreement.
- If we have to reschedule your course for any reason, we will provide you with written notice as soon as reasonably possible and rebook your course for an alternative date subject to availability. Attendance on this course has been accepted as an alternative to a fixed penalty notice or criminal prosecution. To the extent permitted by law, Dorset police accept no liability for any financial or other loss caused directly or indirectly by the cancellation of a course.
Classroom

By accepting the offer of a DAS classroom course it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these Terms and Conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Individuals who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process depending on eligibility criteria.
To gain access to the course, participants MUST bring their photo card Driving licence or an old style licence plus a form of photographic ID. Failure to bring the required ID will result in your access to the course being refused.
Cancellations must be received by email or telephone at least 48 hours before the course in order for your options to be discussed with the DAS team. Please note that if someone attends in lieu of yourself, you will immediately go back into the Criminal Justice System for consideration of prosecution.
COURSE CONDITIONS
To successfully complete the course all participants must:
Arrive at the course venue 20 minutes prior to the course start time to allow time for registration.
If you arrive after the course start time access to the course will be refused.
To gain access to the course participants MUST;
- Have photographic ID available should you be requested to show it.
- Engage in all modules
- Fully participate in all polls and set quizzes
- Be focussed and prepared to answer questions
COVID secure procedures
- A face covering can be worn whilst you are at the venue and during the course.
- There will be a short break during the course where tea/coffee will be provided. Please ensure you remain socially distanced during the break.
- Hand Sanitiser will be provided, and the classroom will be sterilised between groups.
- Please ensure that you keep a 2m gap between other participants at all times during the course.
- If you have any COVID symptoms or feel unwell, please do not attend the course and contact the Driver Awareness Scheme course to discuss your options, should you attend with any symptoms you may be refused entry to the course.
- If you develop symptoms or test positive for COVID within 48 hours of attending your course please contact the Driver Awareness Scheme office on 01202 227549 immediately
Standards of behaviour
- Attendees should conduct themselves in a respectful manner to the course trainers and others attending the course.
- Disruptive behaviour, intoxication, wilful non-compliance or wilful misbehaviour whilst on a course is unacceptable.
- Using a mobile phone is prohibited throughout the course as this can cause disruption and is a distraction in a learning environment. As mobile technology can be used for recording and photography there is also a Safeguarding and Data Protection issue.
- Course attendees should not wear clothing which is likely to cause embarrassment or offence to others delivering or attending a course.
Dorset Police reserve the right to refuse access or expel anyone for not complying with this terms and conditions.
Anyone in breach of the Terms and Conditions will be referred back to the Central Ticket Office for processing. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times unless we believe an offence is disclosed.
Webinar
These are the Terms and Conditions under which the Driver Awareness Scheme Webinar (DASW) operates, please ensure that you read these prior to accepting the offer of the DASW course.
By accepting the offer of a DASW course it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these Terms and Conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Individuals who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process depending on eligibility criteria.
The attendance on the webinar is for use by the participant only and registration information should not be forwarded on to third parties; doing so may hinder access, as webinar entry is by prior registration only. Similarly, the materials are for use by the participant only and should not be forwarded on to third parties.
The webinar relies on a good internet connection for both parties if there is a loss of connection for either the participant or tutor we will try to reconnect and deliver the remaining course however if we are unable to maintain an internet connection we will contact you to rebook another course.
ID checks will/can be conducted at any time during the course, any person without the correct ID will be removed from the course and referred to the Criminal Justice System where they could be charged with perverting the course of justice by impersonating another person.
The confidentiality and security of webinar registration information and event materials issued by Dorset Police is the responsibility of the participant. If you believe that a third party has obtained details in an unauthorised manner, please promptly notify the Driver Awareness Scheme office on 01202 227549.
The virtual event facility includes a feature that allows audio and any documents and other materials exchanged or viewed during the session to be recorded. By joining a session, you automatically consent to such recordings. If you do not consent to the recording, please contact the DAS office to discuss your concerns in good time prior to the webinar date.
Webinar participation may require you to configure your software settings on your device upon first use, or require you to download the software for your operating system. Work computers or devices should NOT be used as company firewalls may prevent you from accessing the course. Software can be manually downloaded by visiting the GoToTraining download Centre. Please note that you may require administrator privileges on your computer to be able to manually install software.

Privacy Policy
In connection with the operation of the webinar we will ask you to provide us with information that personally identifies you or allows us to contact you ("Personal Information") when you register for the use of the service. The Personal Information that you provide us with in these circumstances will be provided to audio- and web-conferencing services to assist in processing the information, for the sole purpose of enabling them to operate and deliver the webinar service. This information will not be disclosed or shared with others and restricted to providing the contracted services of the webinar.
Dorset Police understand users' need for privacy when using the web for communications and the utmost care in providing the highest levels of security possible. The Personal Information that Dorset Police collect from webinar registrants is stored in operating environments that employ reasonable security measures and that are not available to the general public. Dorset Police and the provider of the audio- and web-conferencing services are not responsible for unauthorised access to such information by hackers or others that obtain access through illegal measures.
COURSE CONDITIONS
To successfully complete the course all participants must:
Register on to the relevant course 24 hours prior to the course start time – failure to register will result in the course off being withdrawn and referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process depending on eligibility criteria.
Complete the mandatory pre-course workbook (approximately 60 mins) prior to the webinar start time, as this will form part of the Webinar and reference will be made to it during the course.
Please ensure that you have downloaded the GoToTraining application and are ready to start the course 20 minutes before the event. If you arrive after the course start time you will be dismissed from the course.
To gain access to the course participants MUST;
- Have photographic ID available should you be requested to show it.
- Engage in all modules
- Fully participate in all polls and set quizzes
- Be focussed and prepared to answer questions

By accepting the offer of an SBD course it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these Terms and Conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Drivers who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred back to the Traffic Prosecutions Unit for consideration of prosecution.
- The offer of an SBD course is a decision made by the Traffic Prosecutions Unit on behalf of Dorset Police. Any decisions made are final. Mitigation for the offence cannot and will not be considered.
